    Styroboarding – doing the wakeskate!

This post is about riversurfing and wakeskating which started for me a few years ago when I moved from Vienna to Steyr/Upper Austria.
Austria, not Australia, in the landlocked country.

Our so called “Styroboard” is light weight, strong and clean, easy to handle and ideal for rendering. Accurate straight cuts and complicated profiles are very easy to achieve by using hot-wire, saw or knife. Well, this is not a very high devoloped construction.
It is just fun because it is that simple. It has not strap inserts, no pads, nor fins.

The rider feedback in the first impression has determined this board to be nicer than any other
board built for this improvised discripline!
This shape was merely a concrete implementation, And a starting point for a neverending search.

Surfers live on a different planet

The breaking wave is such an interesting motive, and surfing such a profoundly visual act, that it is not surprising that surf art and surf photography has become a hyper-specialised genre.

Yet the act of heé nalu, or wave sliding, is as organic and expressionistic as it is visual.
Capable surf art – and there is plenty of it – takes our collective vision of surfing to some deep places.

To paraphrase Robert Hughes, it has particular address to our spirit.
