- Knowledge Models are composed of a set of related Concept Maps or Information Media resources, e.g. files....

The CmapTools documentation is organized as a Knowledge Model composed of concept maps.
The most interstesting point for my purposes are the collaboration and publishing features, providing a powerful means for representing and sharing knowledge

My first Concept Map test scenario is on capturing knowledge on the theme "Solarenergy", further on processes in the fields of "Surfboardshaping".

SolarAID is a UK charity specialising in solar energy for poor countries.

The lack of access to affordable electricity is one major cause of poverty in e.g. Africa. This is why SolarAid focuses mainly on these regions, using solar power for education and health. SolarAid helps to combat on poverty on the one hand, on the other hand on climate change. Both simply by bringing clean, renewable power to the poorest people in the world.

Forestle - the name deducted from the word "forest" - is a "green Internet search engine". The advertising revenue is used to protect endangered rainforest regions in order to keep our worlds most precious ecosystems intact and fight global warming.

Forestle earns advertising revenue from clicks on "sponsored links". These are text links which are displayed next to the generic search results on the result page of our search engine. The sponsored links at Forestle are delivered by Yahoo.

All of the income (minus about 10% administrative costs) is donated to the adopt an acre program, which is run by The Nature Conservancy – one of the most renowned environmental protection organizations in the world. They use the money, which is generated by Forestle, for the sustainable protection of the most precious rainforests on our planet.

The advertising income, which Forestle generates from your web searches, is sufficient to save 0.1 square meter (0.11 yd²) of rain forest per search.

An average Internet user does about 1,000 searches annually. This means that you can save more than 100 square meters (109 yd²) of rainforest every year simply by using Forestle. And the best is that it is absolutely free!

In order to keep Forestle transparent, they post monthly reports, which show how much rainforest has been saved. In total more than 2,781,759.4 m² (3,042,132.1 yd²) have been protected already by Forestle!

MOUNTAIN OF STORMS was a film made in 1968 featuring YC, Doug Tompkins, and Dick Dorworth which documents a 6 month odyssey that took them from from California to the Patagonia region of South America. This film was the inspiration for 180 South. Included in this clip are the intro and a little soul surfing from Peru.

The 28th Biennial of Graphic Arts is a multifaceted event with a long tradition; it consists of a number of exhibitions as well as other happenings. Once again, the Biennial’s central exhibition, The Matrix: An Unstable Reality, on view for two months in Ljubljana galleries, will focus on contemporary graphic art in the broadest sense of the term.
The exhibition responds to certain vital questions for society and art raised by the cult movie trilogy The Matrix. Does a medium stay the same once it incorporates new technologies in its discourse? Does this increase the audience for art? What is the social power of those who possess the matrix? Is the possession of the matrix enough to also justify exclusive reproduction rights? Can we create a perfect world, whether real or virtual?

Further the exhibition offers a selection of more than eighty internationally established and emerging artists. Their work extends from traditional and contemporary printmaking to artist's books and interventions in the public space, in the mass media, and on computers.

In vielen Tätigkeitsbereichen (Firmen) erfolgt der Wissenstransfer mit Text und Zahlen, seltener mit visuellen Repräsentationen (z.B. Diagrammen, Bildern, usw.).
Wie kann also bei genauerer Betrachtung dieser Methoden der Nutzen für konkrete Situationen
in der Geschäftspraxis klarer herausgearbeitet werden?

Aufgabe:

• Zordnen von existierenden Visualisierungsmethoden zu einer konkreten Situation
  in einer Geschäftspraxis
• Entwicklung von Visualisierungstechniken für konkrete Problemstellungen

Knowledge Visualization ist die Bedienung von visuellen Benutzeroberflächen
(dank der Forschungsgebiete "Interface Design" und "Human Computer Interaction").
Welche neuen interaktiven Visualisierungsmethoden helfen also dabei bestimmte Informationen
zu erforschen, zu erinnern und zu vermitteln???
(Lösungsansätze fänden sich in den Gebieten der Knowledge Visualization, Information Visualization,
Information Architecture und im Information Design).
Ziel: Information durch neue Visualisierungsmethoden zu erfahren, kurz, sie zu nutzen!
(zeigen, wie diese Komponenten einen Mehrwert für den Nutzer schaffen - entspricht der Visualisierungswissenschaft)

Wir besitzen beeindruckende Fähigkeiten, visuelle Informationen schnell aufzunehmen und
effizient zu verarbeiten. Vielfältige Studien helfen dabei die Vorteile von visuellen
Repräsentationen zu belegen.Beispiele für die Vorteile von Visualisieurungen sind:

• motivieren und aktivieren Menschen,
  z.B. durch Visionen
• zur Koordination in Teams,
  z.B. durch Strategieszenarien
• erleichtern das Lernen,
  z.B. durch Funktionsschemas
• stellen gleichzeitig einen Überblick und Details dar, z.B. durch Landkarten
• fördern die Erinnerung, z.B. durch Metaphern
• erregen und halten die Aufmerksamkeit aufrecht, z.B. durch Videobilder
• machen Ausnahmen, Trends oder Muster sichtbar, z.B. durch Sternbilder
• zeigen Beziehungen auf,
  z.B. durch Diagramme
• Visualisierungen lösen Emotionen aus,
  z.B. durch Werbung

Weiterführende Fragen: Wie genau macht man Informationen verständlich? Und mit welchem Medium?
Was will ich damit erreichen? Was ist das Kommunikationsziel?

und die Freiheit zu handeln!

...die Freiheit zu handeln bedeutet lediglich, mit der Tradition des Abwartens und der Fremdbestimmung zu brechen. Sie bedeutet, für ein paar Jahre den Appel "Wir müssen etwas tun!" zu ignorieren...und das Tun tun.

Handlungsfreiheit ist eine Haltung. Das Motiv des Handelnden bestimmt sie ebenso wie das Ergebnis der Handlung. Beides ist Verantwortung. Und Verantwortung ist eine anerkannt positiv bewertete Größe. Diese ist weder an ein 13. Monatsgehalt noch eine Hackordnung gebunden, nicht an Tarife, nicht an verbriefte Rechte und schon gar nicht an die Gewohnheit.  Wie laufen die Dinge? - So.

Brainstorming, Recherchieren, erste Anläufe, Schritt für Schritt, Learning by doing, Enttäuschungen einstecken, Scheitern, erneut Kraft tanken, neue Wege suchen, Versuch wagen, Lösungen finden, Höhenflüge erleben, Ansätze weiter verfolgen, mit anderen Ideen flirten, kreativ denken, Freude erfahren, Innovation zulassen...und nach harter Arbeit einen Durchbruch erlangen.
