The idea of this online community (www.couchsurfing.com - since 1999, CouchSurfing International Inc. - a Non-Profit Company) is not new, it has quite an interesting and eventful history.

"Sleeping with Strangers" is thought to be an experience, if it does not bother you to have strangers in your house. For example, if you want to visit a BarCamp/GreenCamp, taking place in SanFrancisco, California, but didn't want to pay for a hotel, you could search for a couchsurfer host in California who would be willing to give you a couch or bed in their home (for free) for a night, and perhaps show you some sights too!
